[Trivia] Nautilus trivia
The Picasso of the watch world
The Nautilus is such an iconic model that when people think of Patek Philippe, they think of the Nautilus. It was launched in 1976 as Patek Philippe's first sports watch collection. Its name is said to come from the fact that it was created based on the porthole of the Nautilus submarine. The designer was Gérald Genta, a genius watch designer known as the "Picasso of the watch world." Gérald Genta's signature works include the Omega Constellation "C Line" and the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak, and he has created a variety of masterpieces.
Excellent waterproof performance
The Nautilus was born thanks to the efforts of Philippe Stern, Honorary Chairman of Patek Philippe at the time, who enjoyed marine sports as a hobby, and the aforementioned genius watch designer Gérald Genta. Genta designed the watch based on Patek Philippe's concept of "a watch that matches both wetsuits and tuxedos," resulting in a new wristwatch with unprecedented water resistance and stylish design. That watch is the Nautilus. While many other companies had models focused on water resistance at the time, the Nautilus was unprecedentedly thin, and its high water resistance despite its thinness made it an instant hit.
