IWC Portugieser Watch | New & Used Items List

The Portugieser was born in the late 1930s in response to a request from Portuguese merchants for the development of a high-precision wristwatch. Development was based on the large movements used in pocket watches of the time, known for their precision and durability. The incorporation of a large movement inevitably meant that the watch itself was large, but IWC didn't stop there. Pursuing simplicity, the watch features hands and indices with excellent design and legibility, a large dial that makes the most of the case size by making the bezel as thin as possible, and a case design that eliminates all unnecessary elements, resulting in a classically beautiful watch that doesn't even seem large. "Portugieser" means "Portuguese" in English, and this is the origin of the model name.
