Trivia about Audemars Piguet products
Small Clock Town
In 1875, Jules-Louis Audemars and Edouard-Auguste Piguet established their watch workshop in Le Brassus, a small town in the Vallée de Joux in northern Switzerland, known as the "Watch Valley," a thriving watchmaking region. In 1882, they launched the Grande Complication, the world's first ultra-complicated watch featuring a split-seconds chronograph, minute repeater, and alarm, and went on to introduce numerous other world-first mechanisms. Even in 1970, when the Swiss watch industry was being overwhelmed by Japanese quartz watches, Audemars remained a strictly family-run business run by Jasmine and Olivier Audemars, great-granddaughters of the founders, and has remained an independent brand to this day, free from external influences.
A great partnership
Since its founding, the brand has actively partnered with various celebrities and athletes to deepen inspiration and spread its values. The brand has partnered with Team Alinghi, a competitor in the famous America's Cup yacht race, and Italian car manufacturer Maserati, and has welcomed Arnold Schwarzenegger, Lionel Messi, and Michael Schumacher as ambassadors. In 2020, the brand partnered with Ralph & Russo, a British Royal Warrant holder, to launch a collection model. The two companies were united by their shared values of being family-run, maintaining an independent spirit, and striving for innovation.
“1000 years”
The Millenary, which means "1000 years," was created to commemorate the millennium year of 2000. It features an oval case inspired by the Colosseum, a World Heritage Site in Rome. Early Millenary models featured three hands and sophisticated designs, featuring diamonds on the bezel and opal on the dial. While Millenary initially focused on design, the Millenary 4101, released in 2011, placed greater emphasis on the movement. This allowed the movement to be viewed from both the case back and dial, which had a major impact on subsequent Millenary collections. To ensure a movement that looks beautiful from both sides, the "balance wheel," the heart of the watch, is located at 9 o'clock and features a special design that allows the movement to rotate in reverse.
Tradition and innovation in harmony
Since the company's founding, Audemars Piguet watches have been handcrafted by skilled artisans. These luxury watches, produced in small quantities and taking several months to create, are held in the highest regard thanks to the craftsmanship and passion handed down through generations, unique to a manufacture. Furthermore, movements typically become larger when complex mechanisms such as perpetual calendars and tourbillons are incorporated. However, Audemars Piguet, which never compromises on functionality or design, has pursued miniaturization and thinning of movements, successfully developing a 7.8mm perpetual calendar model and a 4.8mm tourbillon model, and continues to innovate with a tireless spirit of exploration.
